HUMAN RESOURCES
Our Mission
At the Hawaii Conference, we recognize that our employees are among our greatest blessings. Through their faithful service, the mission of sharing the gospel is carried forward across our churches, schools, and ministries throughout the islands. Their commitment and spirit of aloha make it possible to impact our communities in meaningful and lasting ways.
The mission of the Human Resources Department is to support and care for each employee—from the first day of service through retirement—while strengthening the overall effectiveness of our organization.
Our office provides professional services and resources designed to equip both employees and leadership, fostering a positive and collaborative employer-employee relationship rooted in respect, integrity, and our shared mission.
These services include employment processing, employee benefits, employment policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws.

Employee Handbook 530.30 Background Screening
At the Hawaii Conference, we believe that protecting our keiki is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to us. Creating safe, nurturing environments across our churches, schools, and ministries is essential to fulfilling our mission.
To support this commitment, we partner with Sterling Volunteers, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and preventing the mistreatment of vulnerable individuals. Through this partnership, training is provided for both youth and adults on topics such as abuse prevention, neglect, recognizing predatory behavior, bullying, healthy boundaries, respect, and the risks associated with cyberspace.
Together, we strive to foster a culture of safety, vigilance, and care throughout our Conference communities.
To keep children safe, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has developed a four-step screening process for all volunteers. Those steps include:
Observe a six-month waiting period for new and transferred members
Collect essential information about each volunteer
Contact personal references of the volunteer
Conduct a criminal background screening, which comes with the training component
Anyone over the age of 18 who has an appointed position at the local church should complete the volunteer information form. (Click link above.) This form collects some basic personal information such as the volunteer’s full name, birthdate, address, etc. The volunteer information form needs to be completed before the volunteer can begin their duties. If the document is not full completed, the volunteer should not be permitted to perform their duties at their local church. Becasue completed forms contain personal information, store them securely to protect the volunteer.
Sterling Volunteers Background Screening
All volunteers and employees 18 and older in our churches and schools are required to complete background screening. The process is simple and completely online. (Click the link above.)
