Ralph S. Watts III is president of the Hawaii Conference of Seventh-day Adventist and an ordained minister. Having grown up in Korea and Singapore he developed first hand a deep appreciation of the ethnic diversity and cultures and the vast scope and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church around the world. It still burns as strongly today as it did when he first sensed his call to ministry flying with the bush pilot in Borneo and assisting in evangelistic meetings the summer of his junior year at Far Eastern Academy. This was strengthened by being both a MK (missionary’s kid) for fifteen years and a PK (preacher’s kid) all of his life. His family has a rich history of mission service as both his grandfather and his father have served the Adventist church as pastors and administrators.
Watts brings that experience to Hawaii where he works closely with the pastoral team, educators, healthcare professionals, church members, and conference staff to Reach Hawaii – Each One Reach One. He has pastored churches in Colorado, Wyoming and California. He is a published author and has traveled extensively to various countries for speaking engagements.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in theology from Union College. He also has a Masters of Divinity degree from Andrews University, and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, where his dissertation was on the subject of small group ministries. His wife, Sharon, has her masters’ degree in flute performance and teaches music. They have two children: Elise, their daughter, is a nurse practitioner who lives in Loma Linda, California, with her husband; and their son, Steve, is a fourth year medical student at Loma Linda School of Medicine.
His passion comes from 1 Corinthians 2:2, “For I am determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” Therefore, his vision is to lead people to a renewed commitment to Christ, His church, and His soon second coming.
